STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF HAIRINNES OF YARNS PRODUCED ON DIFFERENT SPINNING SYSTEMS

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF HAIRINNES OF YARNS PRODUCED
ON DIFFERENT SPINNING SYSTEMS

Abstract:
Hairiness can be considered as sum of the fibre ends and loops standing out from the main
compact yarn body. Beside other instruments, there are two major testing equipments
available on the market used for evaluating the yarn hairiness. The most popular instrument
is the Uster hairiness system, which characterizes the hairiness by H value, and is defined as
the total length of all hairs within one centimeter of yarn. The hairiness H is an average value
giving no indication of the distribution of the length of hairs. The so-called hairiness diagram
contains information about the H valued in the 400 m yarn portion. Main aim of this
contribution is analysing the distribution of H value for cotton yarns and comparing the
compact yarns according to possible bimodality (two types of hairiness). The results show
that in general the fibres hair distribution are of bi-modal shape and comprises a mixture
Gausian distribution.
